Vistage Chair since 2007
“I have been privileged to support, contribute to and learn from Vistage members about their many challenges and successes in industries to which I had never been exposed previously. Regardless of business profile, the issues we work on together all have common themes ..... virtually all involving people issues. There is but one measure of true quality performance: "Right first time, on time, every time".”
After retiring in 2006 from a distinguished career at GKN, a Tier One global automotive engineering and manufacturing business, Richard Best became a Vistage Chair in 2007. In 1973, Richard was transferred to the US from the UK to establish GKN’s North American sales and marketing activities. The company’s strength in Constant Velocity Joint technology was the springboard for significant growth in the US market with the widespread adoption of front wheel drive.
Richard became a Vistage member in 1991 when he was appointed CEO of GKN’s North American Operations. He later transferred to Singapore in 1996 to run GKN’s fast growing businesses in Asia, including Japan, China, India and Korea. He returned to the US in 2002 to take responsibility for GKN Driveline’s and GKN Sinter Metals’ American businesses until his retirement at the beginning of 2006.
